STEM for Sustainability

Festival 2021

The Collyer's Festival of Science 2021 was held on 25th June on site at college. Formerly the Science Careers Day, the Festival of Science 2021 brought together speakers working in many diverse field in STEM to inspire students to consider equally diverse career paths in their own future. 

This year, our keynote speakers were both standing at the forefront of scientific development as the world faces the impacts of climate change. We were delighted, therefore, to introduce this years' keynote speaker theme of STEM for sustainability.

Mark Miodownik
MATERIAL SCIENTIST | BROADCASTER & WRITER

Mark has worked in materials science research for more than 20 years. He established the UCL Institute of Making where he is now a director and runs the research programme, and the Plastic Waste Innovation Hub aiming to help deal with the consequences of our plastic waste. Mark is the author of the book Stuff Matters and has presented and featured on numerous TV and radio programmes on material science & engineering.​

CHARTERED CIVIL ENGINEER | ECO WARRIOR | POLITICIAN | STEM AMBASSADOR & MENTOR 

Ayo is a passionate advocate for sustainability and the environment. She is a Chartered Civil Engineer working at the Environment Agency. Ayo is one of the Institution of Civil Engineer's Professor Robert Mair's Future Leaders as well as one of ICE's Water Superheroes aptly named the 'Eco Warrior'. Ayo advocates for women in engineeringneurodivergence in the workplace as well as sustainability in development.
